Greetings From…..

Postcard Project

 Create a Postcard for an unusual location. We've all been on vacation and felt the need to send a greeting to our friends and family. Post Cards have been used in the USA since the time of the Civil War. They come in a multitude of Shapes and sizes.





Your Post Card should,
  1. Be 4.25x6” in size
  2. The words “Greetings From” should be included. Text can be distorted and wrapped around curves. You can fill text in with Photos.
  3. Photographs and Illustrations can be collected from the web.
  4. Design a Backside. Youmust include a stamp   (actual or your design)  and a postal mark. You must  include a brief message on the back as well. Don’t forget to put an address on it. Choose a typeface that looks like handwriting. (or reflects the general theme of the post card)
  5. Both the front and back should be printed out on the same page.
This is the last major project of the 4th quarter. It must be submitted (printed) no later than Monday June 10th.

Unlikely Softdrink


Unlikely Soft Drink Project

Create an Unlikely Soft Drink (or energy drink). Be creative, it doesn’t have to be something that you would actually drink. A spoof  of an existing drink is perfect for this project. You could create a completely new drink as well.



Part 1 – The Illustration

Create your illustration by:
1.  Start by drawing a “Character” to represent the product.
2.  Draw it in pencil until it looks the way you want it.
3.  Outline with a fine point marker in black.
4.  Scan the image. (place in folder and I'll scan the image by the next day.)
5.  Colorize the image in Photoshop.
6.  Print and hand in for a grade.

Part 2 – The Label

Using the label template, combine your illustration and text to make a product label.
The template can be found in the Boccini Directory in the “Student Commons”. The template is from a “Dasani” bottle. You can follow the general look of this bottle or deviate as needed.

Your label must include:
  1. Your Illustration – Consider placing it in an oval.
  2. Product name showing your knowledge of text effects. Use text effects we have practiced in class, or find new effects online. Choose a type style that reflects the “idea” behind the product.
  3. Recycle logo (found in Boccini Directory in the “Student Commons”)
  4. Nutritional information.
  5. Ingredients.

Part 3 – Mock-up

Cut our a printed label and apply to a “Dasani” bottle. (Second Grade)

CD Jacket


Personal C-D Cover

You are producing your first album. Because you are on a shoe-string budget, you are doing all the graphics for the CD cover. Remember, it needs to attract attention of the shopper.

  1. Your image must be on the Cover or Back. Use a digital camera or cell phone camera to get the image. You may access Snapfish or Photobucket accounts to acquire photos Using your knowledge of Photoshop, embellish the photo to achieve the effect you want.
  2. Use your knowledge of text effects to create a title.
  3. The back must include the track list. Be creative when naming your songs. Include time.
  4. The template for the project is in the Student Commons/Boccini/CD Jacket Project.
  5. Include the Compact Disc Digital Audio logo and  bar code.
  6. You may choose to use the “Parental Advisory” logo on the front of your jacket.
  7. Include the disclamer:

  1. Include your company logo.

Cereal Box Project

Breakfast cereal, how often did you beg your mom to get your favorite cereal. Maybe it was Captain Crunch or Frankenberry. Talk about a sugar rush! Check out this article rating the "10 worst" kids' cereals for sugar.

Take a look at some old school breakfast cereal TV ads at Mr. Breakfast.com. Some of the ads are so old that I remember them! :)

Your Assignment:

Create a novel breakfast cereal. Use your imagination. What demographic is the product aimed at? Children? Old Folks? Terrorists?





1. Include a bowl of the product with its “special” ingredient. (Musket balls)
2. Size – 7.5x10.5 inches
3. Your main graphic must show your knowledge of image manipulation. (Milk coming out of the barrel)
4. Company logo must be included.
5. Promotional “Extra” (Prize inside)
6. Weight on bottom (10.5 oz.)
7. Round Shield with nutritional information.
8.. After you have created the graphic, manipulate it and place it on the cereal box blank found in the Boccini directory in the Teacher Share directory. Use the Perspective, Skew and Distort features to fit the image into the box. Change color to suit you design.

Print Ad Project

Creating an Effective Print Ad

Ads come in all shapes and sizes, but they have one main purpose, to sell a product, service or brand.

There are 5 major parts to a print ad.
  1. Artwork
  2. Titles
  3. Body Copy
  4. Contact Information
  5. Extras
Assignment

Create a print ad for one of your two candy/power bars. It must include the first 4 parts of a print ad.
  • Find a large graphic that catches the attention of the viewer.
  • Create a Headline that will send the viewer to the body copy for more information about the product. (ie. Bacon to Go!)
  • Include body copy that describes the product and it's benefits.
  • Include contact information at the bottom. (Company Address, E-mail and Corporate Identity Symbol)
  • Place a 3D product shot at the bottom of the ad. Use Layer Style/Bevel Emboss to make it three dimensional. Use Layer Style/Drop Shadow to add depth.
  • Use the ad below as a model.

Candy/Power Bar Project

Assignment:

Your assignment is to create a new candy or power bar! As you may know the candy bar market is over saturated with different varieties. You must find an unfilled niche and monopolize on it. (Create 2)

Some possible ideas:

  1. A super "pick me up bar", perhaps with twice the sugar and added caffeine.
  2. The "Love" Bar - An aphrodisiac?
  3. Headache Bar - Cures your headache and your sweet tooth.
  4. A repellent Bar - What could it repel? Mosquitos? Door to dor salesman?
  5. An unusual flavor - I know this is a rip off of Harry Potter, but vomit and earwax flavors could make for an unusual product.
What does the bar need to include?

  • A catchy name in a bright color. Make sure it's easy to read. Your want your bar to stick out from the many other bars in the rack.
  • A simple background: Don't confuse the shopper with too much visual information.
  • A description: A High Nutrition Bar, etc.
  • Flavor: i.e. Grass
  • Weight in ounces.
  • Size of the front of the bar: 2"x5 5/8". Add an inch on each side so it will wrap around the bar.
Each bar will be presented as a 3D mock up.

Football Helment Design

Assignment
Your company has been given the job of creating a new "Corporate Identity" for a relocted Arena football Team. (You decide where and give the team a name.)
  • The design must include a “Glyph” and “Logo”. You must create the artwork yourself. (No cutting a pasting from the web.)
  • The image must use complimentary colors for contrast.
  • It must convey an impression of strength and moving forward.
  • You will find the template for the football helmet in the Student Commons/Boccini/Football Helment Logo directories.
  • Design the image first, then encorporate it into the helmet.
  • Provide the client with 2 completely different ideas.
  • Using your stationary, write a business letter to the client (Mr. Boccini) describing the ideas you are submitting for review.
  • Place your finished images on your blog. Include the same description you are "sending" to Mr. Boccini.
